Conference Notes
Okay, so I'm back from the Children's Book Writing Conference with the hopes and dreams that some kind editor will have seen my portfolio in amongst the ocean of other portfolios and thought; "Quick, out of my way, I must get to my cel phone to publish this unsung genius now!" All of these conferences are pretty much the same. Some blah-blah from a few editors about the most recent news that is going on in the publishing world, what sort of books they are currently looking for, new trends in literature for children, who's hot, and hopefully some contact info. Lunch. Then the portfolio reviews. Writers and illustrators are actually "found" this way. This is the small crumb that keeps us coming back. Plus, you get to do a little hob-nobbing with other folks who do what you do all day. Here are my notes from the day. Some of the names and stuff have been removed to protect the innocent (me). Also, you might not be able to figure some of the notes out. Neither can I. A result of not enough coffee and too many doughnuts. Also, not everything is completely true, especially the part about the mice.
